The total number of students appeared = 60.

Given:

The number of students used unfair means =\frac{1}{3}

The number of students caught red hand while cheating =\frac{1}{4}

Let x be the total number of students.

Now, from the given data, it is clear that the students who uses unfair means

=\frac{1}{3} \text {(total number of students)}

=\frac{1}{3} x.

Thus,

Students who uses unfair means =\frac{1}{4} \times \frac{1}{3} x=\frac{1}{12} x

Now, students who were caught right handed is given by 5.

Therefore, \frac{x}{12}=5

\Rightarrow x=5 \times 12=60.
