no. of girls passed = 40% of 1100

=440. girls passed

no. of boys = 2500-1100
=1400 boys

no. of boys passed= 50% of 1400
= 50/100×1400
=700 boys passed

no. of passed students= 700+440
=1140 students passed

therefore, no. of failed students= 2500-1140
= 1360 failed students

% of students who failed
=1360/2500×100
=54.4%
