% failed Hindi alone = 35% - 20% = 15%
% failed English alone = 45% - 20% = 25%
total % failed = 15% + 25% = 40%
the total % passed for both subjects (100% - total % failed)=
total % passed = 100% - 40 % = 60%
the total % passed in each subject (100% - total % failed in each subject)=
total % passed Hindi = 100% - 35% = 65%
total % passed English = 100% - 45% = 55%
Equation to solve for % passed in both subjects (sum of total % passed in each subject - % passed in both subjects (x) = total % passed for both subjects)=
(65% - x) + (55% - x) = 60%
120% - 2x = 60%
2x = 120% - 60%
2x = 60%
x = 60%/2
x = 30%
Therefore total number of students passed in both the subjects are 30%
