Let no. of candidates appeared in exam be 'x'

No. of candidates failed = 80
= 10%

Percentage of candidates passed = 90%

Total number of candidates = 80*100/10
= 800 ...... Answer

Let the total number of candidates be x

10%of student failed

10/100×x=80

x=80×100/10

x=800

So 800 candidates appeared for the exam
