In an examination a student has to answer 5 questions out of 9 questions,in which 2are compulsory.In how many ways a student can answer the questions?​

Answer:

No. of questions given = 9

No. of questions to be answered = 5

But 2 questions are compulsory

So the student has to answer the remaining 3 questions (5 – 2 = 3) from the remaining 7(9 – 2 = 7) questions which can be done in 7C3 ways

7C3 = (7 x 6 x 5)/(3 x 2 x 1) = 35.
