ratio of passed students:ration of failed students= 4:1

Let the passed student and failed students be 4x and x.

Then total number of students = 4x + x= 5x

Now 30 less appeared and 20 less passes= 10 less failed

According to question new ratio of pass: fail= 5:1

4x-20/x-10= 5/1

Cross multiply both the sides

1 (4x-20) = 5 (x-10)

4x - 20 = 5x- 50

Take x's on one side

-20+50 = 5x-4x

30= x

x= 30
