In an examination there are 30 questions. 1 mark is given for each correct answer and 0.25 is deducted for every incorrect answer. Ankur attempted all the questions and scored 13.75. How many incorrect answers did he have ?

=> x + y = 30 -- (1)

Also, he scored 13.75 marks.

Now marks given for each correct answer = 1

and marks deducted for each wrong answer = 0.25

Therefore

(marks given for correct answer)*(no. of correct answers) - (marks deducted for wrong answer)(No. of wrong answers) = 13.75

=> x- 0.25y = 13.75 -- (2)

Now solving equatins 1 and 2

We get,

x = 17, y=13

Therefore he had 13 incorrect answers.
