Solution:

We have to find 10% of the students first.

It is given that 10% of the students got supplementary but only 30 study appeared in supplementary exam which was 25% of 10% supplementary holders.

If x be the number of students who got supplementary,

30 = 25% * x

or, 30 = 25/100 * x

or, x = 30 * 100 /25

or, x = 120

So, there were 120 students with supplementary.

Let, the number of students appearing in the exam be y and out of them 10% got supplementary.

Then,

120 = y * 10%

or, 120 = y * 10/100

or, y = 120 * 100 / 10

or, y = 1200

Hence, 1200 students appeared in the exam.
