In an LCR circuit the potential difference between terminals of inductance 60V, between terminals of capacitor 40V and between the terminals of resistors is 40V. find the supply voltage.

Explanation:

As we know that in LCR series circuit inductor and capacitor voltage is in opposite phase to each other.

Also we know that the voltage of inductor and capacitor is at 90 degree phase with the voltage of resistor

So here when we find the net supply voltage across all then we need to find the phasor sum of all

So here net voltage across inductor and capacitor is given as

V_{LC} = V_L - V_c

V_{LC} = 60 - 40

V_{LC} = 20 volts

now net voltage across LCR is given as

V_{net} = \sqrt{V_{LC}^2 + V_R^2}

V_{net} = \sqrt{20^2 + 40^2}

V_{net} = 44.72 Volts
