What is Jhum Cultivation?

It is also known as the Shifting Cultivation where the people follow slash and burn cultivation.

This form of agriculture practice is famous among the tribal areas who once in a while cultivate a land and then burn it to dissipate the weeds.

This agriculture practices is not new but followed since ages when the Human civilisation learnt to practice agriculture.

They burn the land as they believe that after an year the fertility of soil is regained and thus again fit for cultivation.

But it create certain problems like:

Pollution- Due to burning of large fields and weeds, the pollution level rises and thus affect the human badly.

Degradation- Soil Degradation is the major cause of concern of Jhumming Cultivation. Though it is believed that soil regains its fertility after burning, but in reality, the soil is degraded severely.

Deforestation- Due to degradation of soil, the deforestation is on alarming stage and hence causes many problems in the environment
