The Ministry of Education in Rwanda is making efforts to promote the use of Information and Communication Technology in schools. It is taking steps to implement the One Laptop Per Child project in the country.

    · The Rwanda Education Commons is a program funded by USAID. 

       It is a four year program which aims to promote the effective use 

       of ICT in education.

    · REC's office was opened in January 2009.

    · An online education platform has been designed by the REC.

    · It offers a digital library of high quality resources related to the curriculum. 

       More than 1.630 teachers use it regularly.

    · The Africa Virtual University allows students to learn online.

    · NEPAD e-Africa Commission launched a project in October 2006 to 

      promote ICT in the schools in Rwanda.

    · Kigali Institute of Science and Technology and Kigali Institute of Education

      are involved in ICT education. Since 2005 KIE has been associated with 

      the EdQual project.

    · The EdQual initiative has been working with the teachers of 12 primary 

      and secondary schools in Rwanda.
