In convex mirror the distance of object from mirror is 10 cm and the image is 1/2 the size of object. Find the focal length.

Given,

U= - 10cm (object distance)

Magnification =1/2

M=h(i) /h(o) =-(v) /u......... (1)

(magnification formula)

1/f=1/v+1/u........(2)

(mirrors formula)

1/2=-v/u from (1)

-v=u/2 = -(v) =-(10) /2 = 5cm

So v=+5cm (virtual)

1/f=1/-10+1/+5 (from (2) )

1/f=1+ -(2) /-10 (L. C. M. = - 10)

f=-(10) /-(1) =10cm (Reciprocal)
