*Robert Mugabe has been ruling the country since Independence.
*Elections have been held regularly and have always won by the party ZANU-PF
*President Mugabe is popular, but also uses unfair practices in elections.
*Over the years his govt has changed the constitution several times to increase the powers of the president and make him less accountable.
*Opposition party workers were harassed and their meetings were disrupted.
*Public protests and demonstrations against the govt were declared illegal.
*Television and radio are controlled by the govt and give only the ruling party's version.
*The govt had ignored some court judgments that went against it and it pressurised judges.
These were the steps taken by Robert Mugabe to establish total control and gain power over the people ..
