in electrolysis of water hydrogen gas is liberated at cathode but not at anode why​

Answer:

Well its because hydrogen exists both in form of H+ ions and H-(hydride) ions so it may undergo reduction at cathode as well as it may undergo oxidation at anode respectively.

  • Because generally hydrogen has 1 electrone and it looses it so it get positive charge on it where positive and negative attract each other and cathode has negative charge
  • oxygen have 6 valence electron in its last shell so for stability if requires 2 more electrons so it get negative charge on it so it attract towards anode which is positive charge where negative positive attracts each other
