Well, the reason why we add Sulphuric Acid to the beaker in which the electrolysis of water is done for faster electrolysis and the decomposition into hydrogen and oxygen gases. Thus, if you're trying electrolysis on deionized water will be an intensely slow process, since pure water is a horrendous conductor of electricity.
