in electrolysis with active electrode, does the cation deposited at cathode come from the active anode or the solution?

+e −→M (at cathode)

The ions from anode get into the solution and ions from solution deposits on the cathode.

∴ Concentration of metal at anode decreases and concentration of metal at cathode increases.
