The objective of this research is to characterise aqueous sulfuric acid-copper sulphate solutions electrodialysis (ED). It is also studied whether contaminants such As and Sb, typical of copper electrorefining electrolytes, are present. We describe the findings of kinetic experiments performed in ED cells with and without recirculation. Temperatures were 22 and 44°C; the concentrations were 3-9 g/l copper, 50 g/l sulfuric acid, 3 g/l arsenic, and 0.025 g/l antimony; the transport rates varied depending on the experimental circumstances and were 0.2-0.6 g/l copper, 0.65 g/l sulphate, and 0.016-0.03 g/l arsenic. In order to analyse the experimental findings and assess the effectiveness of the examined cells, a speciation model was created and put to use. The major finding is that ED can be used for concentration and separation.
