Answer:

Given equation: 3x + 2y = 8

To express y in terms of x we must transpose all other values other than y on the other side of the equation.

3x + 2y = 8

2y = 8-3x

y = \frac{8-3x}{2}

To check whether (4,-2) lies on the line.

We can do that by putting x = 4 and y = -2  into the given equation

if L.H.S = R.H.S then it lies on the line

3(4) + 2(-2) = 8

12 - 4 = 8

8 = 8\\

L.H.S = R.H.S

∴ The point (4,-2) lies on the line 3x + 2y = 8
