Given:

7x^2 + kx -3 =0

x=2/3

To Find:

the value of k

Solution:

Let us substitute x=2/3 in the equation 7x^2 + kx -3 = 0

7( { \frac{2}{3}) }^{2}  +  \frac{2k}{3} - 3 = 0

7( \frac{4}{9}) +  \frac{2k}{3}  - 3 = 0

 \frac{28}{9}  +  \frac{2k}{3}  - 3 = 0

Rearranging by keeping the unknown term k to one side,

 \frac{2k}{3}  = 3 -  \frac{28}{9}

 \frac{2k}{3}  =   \frac{27- 28}{9}

2k = -1/3

k = -1/6

The value of k is -1/6
