we know that if a triangle and a parellelogram are on the same base and between the same parallel lines then the area of the triangle is half of the area of the parallelogram.
rectangle ABCD and triangle GEF are on the same base and between the same parallel lines.
area of GEF = half of area of rectangle ABCD
                  =1/2 AD CD
                  = 1/2 10*5
                   = 25cm^2

Anonymous: abcd has the base dc and gef has fe
2092000: they are because a rectangle is also a parallelogram
Anonymous: s,rectangle is,but check the fig.
Anonymous: no same base
2092000: GEF and ACD are congruent triangles. so we can consider any one of these two to calculate the area.
Anonymous: oh,thanks!
Anonymous: but,how come dc=fe?
Anonymous: ok,got it,srry

area of EFG = half of area of rectangle ABCD
                  =1/2 AD* CD
                  = 1/2 10*5
                   = 25cm^2
