Area of the shaded region is 43.74 cm²

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of the shaded region = Area of the parallelogram BCD - Area of the quarter circle

Area of the parallelogram = (Base of the parallelogram) × (Distance between the parallel sides)

= AB × OD

= AB\times \frac{AB}{2}  [Since OD = radius of the semicircle]

= 12\times \frac{12}{2}

= 72 cm²

Area of the quarter circle = \frac{\pi r^{2}}{4}

= \frac{\pi (6)^{2}}{4}

= 9×(3.14)

= 28.26 cm²

Now area of the shaded region = 72 - 28.26 = 43.74 cm²
