Step-by-step explanation:

1. Find the total area of the Square by the formula

Area = side × side

= 20 × 20

= 400cm.sq

2. Then find the areas of the non shaded regions like AEF , DEC , BCF.

3. Find BCF first, where base = 10cm and height = 20cm.

Area = 1 × base × height

2

= 10×20

2

= 100cm.sq

4. Then area of DEC, where base = 8cm and height = 20cm.

Area = 1 × base × height

2

= 8×20

2

= 80cm.sq

5. Then area of AEF, where base = 10cm and height = 12cm ( i.e, 20 - 8 )

Area = 1 × base × height

2

= 10×12

2

= 60cm.sq

6. Then subtract all the areas of non shaded regions from the total area of the Square.

Area of CEF = 400 - ( 100 + 80 + 60 )

= 400 - 240

= 160cm.sq
