the area of triangle is .= 1/2 40×40 =800

and the area of square is .= 40×40=1600

then the area of shaded region =1600-800 =800

Solution :

i ) Side of the square ( a ) = 40cm

Area of the square = a²

= 40²

= 1600 cm² ---( 1 )

ii ) base of the triangle ( b ) = 40 cm

Height ( h ) = 40 cm

Area of the triangle = ( bh )/2

= ( 40 × 40 )/2

= 1600/2

= 800 cm² ----( 2 )

iii ) Area of shaded region = ( 1 ) - (2 )

= 1600 cm² - 800 cm²

= 800 cm²
