the area of triangle is .= 1/2 40×40 =800
and the area of square is .= 40×40=1600
then the area of shaded region =1600-800 =800

Solution :
i ) Side of the square ( a ) = 40cm
Area of the square = a²
= 40²
= 1600 cm² ---( 1 )
ii ) base of the triangle ( b ) = 40 cm
Height ( h ) = 40 cm
Area of the triangle = ( bh )/2
= ( 40 × 40 )/2
= 1600/2
= 800 cm² ----( 2 )
iii ) Area of shaded region = ( 1 ) - (2 )
.
= 1600 cm² - 800 cm²
= 800 cm²
