Simple kind of majority is needed for winning  first past the post system of elections. This is defined as a majority of more than 50% of those present and voting. This is often referred to as a working majority or functional majority.

In Parliament, the simple majority is the most commonly used form of majority. When the constitution or laws do not mention the type of majority required for voting, the simple majority is used.
