Gattermann reaction is formylation method of aromatic ring compounds.
In this reaction, the benzene is added with Hydrocyanic acid and Friedel craft's catalyst AlCl3 to form benzene diazonium chloride which on further hydrolysis produces as aldehyde. In such reaction, copper acts as a catalyst.
