In Haber process 30 litres of dihydrogen and 30 litres of
dinitrogen were taken for reaction which yielded only 50% of
the expected product. What will be the composition of
gaseous mixture under the aforesaid condition in the end?
(a) 20 litres ammonia, 25 litres nitrogen, 15 litres hydrogen
(b) 20 litres ammonia, 20 litres nitrogen, 20 litres hydrogen
(c) 10 litres ammonia, 25 litres nitrogen, 15 litres hydrogen

The composition of  gaseous mixture is 10 litres ammonia, 25 litres nitrogen, 15 litres hydrogen

Explanation:

Haber process is used to prepare ammonia experimentally by using nitrogen and hydrogen.

The chemical reaction involved in the process is

                 N_2+3H_2 \to 2NH_3

     initial      30L   30L      0L

 At 50%      30-x    30-3x    2x

Form the given data, 50% expected product = 2x = 10L

Therefore, x = 5L

Therefore, Volume of Nitrogen at equilibrium = 30-x = 30-5 = 25L

Volume of Hydrogen at equilibrium = 30-3x =30-3(5)=30-15=15L

Volume of ammonia = 2x = 2(5) =10L

Therefore, the correct answer is option (c)
