Meiosis can take place only in diploid stage because zygote is diploid in them , thus it takes place during fertilization.

HLO MATE HERE IS UR ANSWER

. Meiosis takes place only in diploid stage.

. Because zygote is the only diploid cell in life cycle of such organisms.

. In haploid organisms diploid zygote is formed after fertilization by sexual reproduction .

. The diploid zygote undergoes meiosis to produce haploid spores or zoo spores .

. These zoo spores then undergo mitosis to grow into a mature haploid hametophyte.
