In INDIA the modern period started later than Europe. why?

In India the modern period started later than in Europe bcoz in Europe there was unity & thats the main cause of their power.. not only unity they also had the scientific & educational power far better than India .. at that time India was full of superstitions. Europeans knew how to use the resources but Indians did not ..
