According to the national sample survey report( 2011-12) the workplace participating rate if male is 54.4% and the female is 21.9% during 2011-12 increase 19.3% which is higher than 18.6% reported by NSSP in 2009-10.
Steps taken by the government :
1) working women for ensuring safe accommodation for working women away from their residence.
2) Rashtriya Mahila kosh to provide micro finance service to bring about the socio-economic upliftment of poor women.
3) Scheme for universalisation of women helpline intended to provide 24 hours immediate and emergency response to women affected by violence.

(i) The percentage of elected women members in Lok Sabha has never reached even 10 percent of its total strength.
(ii) The share of women in the State Assemblies is less than 5 percent. In this respect, India is among the bottom group of nations in the world. India is behind the averages for several developing countries of Africa and Latin America.
