In meiosis chromosome number leads to Half of the original value & formation of Haploid gametes.

\huge{\bold{\underline{Additional\: Points:-}}}

  • The term Meiosis was coined in the year 1905 by Farmer & Moore.

  • It (Meiosis) only Occurs in Sexually reproducing organisms.

  • Meiosis results in the Formation of Haploid Gametes.

  • Meiosis is Divided in two phases :- Meiosis I & Meiosis ll.

  • Meiosis l is characterized by Reductional Divison.

  • Meiosis ll is characterized by Equational Division.

  • Due to Meiosis Variations occur in a Species or Population.

  • Meiosis helps to maintain the Chromosome number in a particular species In Sexual reproduction.

  • It (Meiosis) also helps in the Formation of Gametes in Sexually reproducing organisms .

  • Each Meiosis (Meiosis l & Meiosis ll) has 4 stages in it. I.e. Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase & Telophase.

  • The Prophase - l of Meiosis l is divided into Further 5 sub - stages I.e Leptotene, Zygotene, Pachytene, Diplotene & Diakinesis.

Note:-

  • Prophase ll of Meiosis ll doesn't have sub - stages like Prophase l of Meiosis l.
