in merchant of venice act 1 scene 3 why does Shylock refer to the story of jacob

Shylock referring Jacob's story to charge interest which was borrowed by Antonio because Antonio doesn't believe in charging or paying interest  and he mocks Shylock for using bible as justification for charging interest.
