It is because if the plug is on the current will keep on flowing through the circuit and increase the temperature of the circuit due to heating effect of electric current.
In ohm’s law definition ‘temperature should remain the same’ is clearly specified.
If temperature increases the properties of the conductor may be altered and so current and potential difference will not remain proportional. This will lead to the ohm’s law not being verified, which is the aim of the activity.
