A punnet square can be described as a diagram which illustrates the results of a cross.  To check out the ratio for f2 plants, lets make a punnet square  for f1 generation and then for f2 generation.

F1 generation:

        t         t

T     Tt       Tt

T     Tt       Tt

The results of the F1 cross  show that all of the offsprings will be tall having heterozygous alleles.

Now, for F2 generation:

        T            t

T     TT          Tt

t      Tt            tt

The results from punnet square show that there will be 3:1 for tall and short plants.
