So, to the find the length of QS we have to find the length if PR because as QS is the median of the right triangle it is half the length of hypotenuse.

[Using pythagoras theorem]

⇒ (PQ)²  + (QR)² = (PR)²

⇒ 12² + 5 ² =  (PR)²

⇒ 144 + 25 =  (PR)²

⇒ 169 =  (PR)²

⇒ PR = √169

Which means PR = 13

And hence OS = 13 / 2 = 6.5
