In Practical, the unit kWh (or kilo Watt hour) is used for the measurement of the Electrical Energy instead of Joule because Joule is the very small unit of the Energy, If it will used it will cause lot of the difficulties in the calculations.
We uses different electrical instruments in our houses, all the Instrument consumes electrical energy. Also, whatever the amount of the energy we uses in pay houses we used to pay for that. So, For commercial Calculations of the Electrical energy Joule is very smallest unit, thus kWh is used for these purposes.
1 J is the S.I. unit of the Energy. It is related to the Joule as ⇒
1 kWh = 3.6 × 10⁶ J.
3.6 × 10⁶ J is also called as 1 unit. [Board of the Trade Unit (or B.T.U.)].
This means that electrical instruments of our used to consume the Unit. Thus, Price for 1 unit is fixed and it varies from one city to the another. By knowing the total amount of the Unit consumed we can calculate the money to be paid by multiplying the cost of one unit with the numbers of the units.
In these calculations, We used to take kWh not Joule to avoid the inconvenience in the calculations of t commercial purposes.
