we resolve velocity because projectile motion is 2dimentional in which body cover distance in x axis as well as y axis that's why velocity is resolved.

Answer:

Because the velocity give is in vector form and to handle it easily it is necessary to be resolved in the horizental and vertical direction because then all the other vector qualities such as displacement and acceleration also have a known direction and it becomes easier to apply the equations of the motion.
