Rutherford did an experiment to find out the model of atom. To do this experiment, he bombarded alpha particles on a thin foil gold.

He observed that maximum rays gets passed through the foil. This implies that there is presence of huge empty space.

When the rays deflected at 180 degree, it was proved that nucleus is located at the centre.
