In South India temples were the centres of multiple nature of activities. Why?

These traders were an organized group and they were often organized in associations or guilds.The guilds set up rules and regulations for trade, fixed prices of different items and protected the interests of the traders.The items were available in small quantities in bazaars and in big amounts in Mandis.

Karkhanas : workshops where skilled artisans and craftsmen used to make goods of various types.

Sarais : rest houses built to provide shelters to the travelers.

Dargah: The place where the Sufi saint is buried, very often a place of pilgrims.

Mandis : wholesale markets.
