Actually the tendency to knock increases with increase in engine speed. When the speed of the engine is increased, only less amount of time is available for combustion of the charge, relative to low engine speeds. This leads to incomplete combustion and knocking. To compensate for this effect, the ignition timing is advanced to increase the time available for combustion
