Even in the decline of the vote share of Congress part in elections after 1989, it had its influence in Indian Politics:

1. Both Congress and BJP are robust competition form 1989. No party had secured the majority seats but congress secured the most in 1989, 1991, 2004.

2.Since from the 1989 the vote share Congress is declining the vote share of Congress is more than that of BJP.

3. In 2004 elections the Congress Party formed Unite Progress Alliance with support from Left front parties. After so many years it was the first time Congress can increase it seats. Further in 2009, it had also increased its seats.
