In state elections, 60% of the voters cast their votes. There are 80,500 voters in the area. In a contest between Mandy and Shan, Mandy won the elections by obtaining 1300 votes more than Shan By what percentage of the votes cast did Mandy beat Shan in the elections?

No of voters = 80,500

No of voters who cast their votes = 60% of 80,500

                                                        = 60/100 × 80,500 = 48300

⇒No. of votes = 48300

Votes won by Shan = x

Votes won by Mandy = x+1300

x+x+1300 = 48300

2x = 47000

x = 23500

Votes won by Shan = x = 23500

Votes won by Mandy = x+1300 = 24800

% = 1300/80500 ×100 = 1.6%
