In eukaryotes, 80S ribosomal subunit is composed of two particles:

- The large particle of 60S which is integrated with 3 RNA molecules (28S, 5.8S, and 5S). In total it weights around 2700Da. It also contains around 45 different proteins.

- The smaller particle of 40S and has one RNA molecules and weights around 1300Da. It has approximately 30 proteins.
