In the absence of microorganisms the earth would become a heap of dead plants and animals because the major decomposers of the earth are microorganisms. In there absence no one will be there to eat up the dead plants and animals which will make the earth a heap of dead plants and animals.

when when a plant or animal dies it leaves behind nutrients and energy in the organic materials that form its body structure. microorganisms (decomposers) eventually converters all such organic matter into carbon dioxide and nutrients . This nutrients becomes a part of the soil. In this way the microorganisms clear the environment.
