In the novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck is the thierteen year old son of the local drunk of St. Petersburg, Missouri, a town on the Missisipi river.

Though formally uneducated, he is thoughtful and intelligent and is able to use his wits to escape from difficult situations.

He is playful but practical, inventive but logical, compassionate but realistic, and willing to come to his own conclusions about important matters, even if these conclusions does not fit with society's norms.

He had to lie, cheat, steal, and defraud in order to preservere in duufficult situations.
