In the chapter, a panch has been shown to be as a God who is above both friendship and enmity through his verdict as given by Alagu and Jumman.
While they were friends initially, Alagu, as a panch, passed a fair judgement in favour of Jumman's aged aunt even though it was against the interests of Jumman.
On the other hand, Jumman also did enough justice as a panch when he ruled a fair judgement in favour of Alagu as he ordered the petty trader, Samjhu Sahu, to pay for Alagu's dead bullock.
