Chemical reaction:

CH4 + 2O2 => CO2 + 2H2O

The no. of atoms in the reactant side:

Carbon = 1

Hydrogen = 2(2) = 4

Oxygen = 2(2) = 4

Total no. of atoms in the reactant side

= 1 + 4 + 4

= 9

The no. of atoms in the product side:

Carbon = 1

Hydrogen = 2(2) = 4

Oxygen = 2(2) = 4

Total no. of atoms in the product side

= 1 + 4 + 4

= 9

The no. of atoms in both the sides of any chemical reaction will be the same because according to the Law of Conservation of Mass, atoms can neither be created nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction.
