hey buddy ... here's your answer...
4 & 8 ohm are in series.... so ,
4+8= 12
5& x are in series.... so,
5 + x
both new resistance are in parallel and equal to 4 ohm .
4 = 12(5 + x )/12 + 5 + x
1 = 3(5 + x ) /17+x
17 + x = 15 + 3x
2= 2 x
this gives us ,
➡️x = 1 ohm
