The answers are 2.4 A, 1.2 A, and 0.4 A respectively. The total current is 4 A and the total circuit resistance is 3 ohms.

Given:

R1 = 5

R2 = 10

R3 = 30

A battery of 12 V

To Find:

Calculate the current through each resistor, the total current in the circuit and the total circuit resistance

Solution:
As the resistors are in parallel, all the resistors have a voltage of 12 V across them. Hence by using Ohm's law

V=IR

we can get current through each resistor.

Current through R1 is

I_1 = \frac{12}{5} =2.4A

Current through R2 is

I_2 = \frac{12}{10} =1.2A

Current through R3 is

I_3 = \frac{12}{30} =0.4A

Hence the total current in the circuit will be the addition of all the currents, which is

I=I_1+I_2+I_3 = 2.4+1.2+0.4=4A

The total circuit resistance can again be given by Ohm's law,

12=4R\\R=3

Hence the current through each resistor is 2.4 A, 1.2 A, and 0.4 A respectively. The total current is 4 A and the total circuit resistance is 3 ohms.
