Nuñez ends up in the country of the blind after falling a thousand feet down a steep mountain slope in the Andes. He had been acting as a guide on a mountaineering expedition and fell while the men were setting up camp for the night on a high rock ledge. After emerging unharmed at the bottom of a ravine, Nuñez comes upon village of stone huts in a meadow. This village is the country of the blind.
