Ammeter reading when switch is closed is 0.9 A.

Given:

When switch is open, Ammeter reading is 0.6 A.

To find:

Ammeter reading when switch is closed is 0.9 A.

Solution:

When switch is open:

From the figure of switch is open, we can say that

i₁ = \frac{E}{r}  and i₂ = \frac{E}{r}

Since it is parallel, i = i₁ + i₂

⇒ i = \frac{E}{r} + \frac{E}{r} = \frac{2E}{r}

⇒ 0.6 = \frac{2E}{r}  ⇒ \frac{E}{r} = 0.3A

When switch is closed:

Since switch is closed, i = i₁ + i₂ + i₃

⇒ i = \frac{E}{r} + \frac{E}{r} + \frac{E}{r} = \frac{3E}{r}

⇒ i = 3 x 0.3 = 0.9 A

Hence Ammeter reading when switch is closed is 0.9 A.
